Viridis Environnement is proud to see one of the pilot projects on which it collaborates evolve. This is a partnership with the City of Rouyn-Noranda, which needed to find a solution for the disposal of its wastewater contaminated with heavy metals. There is too much copper and calcium in wastewater sludge for it to undergo regular treatment.
The pilot project consists in the establishment of a boreal forest behind the Horne Foundry. Since the beginning, more than 1,000 trees have been planted in the Quémont-1 tailings farm.
“The project is based on the technique of deep trenches in rows, developed by the University of Maryland, and allowed the burial of several hundred tons of septic sludge on an area of 1.7 hectares.”
